Where To Eat

Though the iconic Anthony's Pier 4, Durgin Park, and the No Name restaurant are closed forever (though the Union Oyster House remains largely unchanged since the days when Daniel Webster drank tall tumblers of brandy and water and ate dozens of oysters every day), Boston's food scene is thriving despite the pandemic.

Today there are more than 2,500 restaurants, with something for every taste and pocketbook. There are lots of great restaurant guides on line, including the Boston Discovery Guide to help, so we won't try to be comprehensive. Instead, we have put together a short list of our favorite waterfront and seafood restaurants, where you can always get a great meal.

  • The Daily Catch, for great Sicilian inspired seafood and pasta, including the best calamari on the planet.
  • The Barking Crab, one of the city's most popular eating and meeting sites, with an informal style and great views of the Ft. Point Channel
  • Hook Lobster, for the freshest lobster rolls in the city, with take out  and onsite dining, and shipping from coast to coast.
  • Legal Harborside, where the fish is always fresh (If it isn't fresh, it isn't Legal), the chowder world famous and the views of the Fish Pier are awesome.
  • Rowes Wharf Sea Grille, for a power breakfast, lunch with a view, delicious dinner and people watching along Boston’s Harbor Walk.
  • Pier 6 in Charlestown, with a focus on fresh and local seafood and spectacular views.
  • The Reel House at the Eddy in East Boston, offering great views of the harbor and fresh New England fare with powerful flavors from around the world.

Two of our favorite seafood restaurants aren't on the water at all.

  • Jasper White' s Summer Shack in Boston and in Cambridge, where "Food is Love" is more than just a slogan, and you will swear you are at the shore.
  • Peach Farm in Chinatown, for the most authentic Chinese seafood imaginable. Try the clams in black bean sauce, and the lobster scallion ginger.
